SIR SERVICES-NY is the administrator of the Apartment & Property Owners Purchasing Group (APOpg) and has been providing quality insurance programs to New York City Landlords since 1989.
SIR SERVICES was founded by Richard J. Schecher and Kikis A. Kyriacou in late 1988 when these two friends started their insurance operations from a small office located on the 79th floor of the World Trade Center. From 1989 until the tragedy of 911, SIR SERVICES-NY maintained its corporate offices at One World Trade Center.
History will show that sometime during the early 1990's, Bob Smith, an insurance consultant for the Rent Stabilization Association of New York approached Schecher with the challenge to create and administer an insurance program for his client's membership base of over 10,000 New York apartment owners. Schecher accepted the challenge and the RSA Purchasing Group was created for this purpose.
The mission for Schecher was two fold: (1) Create an insurance program specifically designed for the smaller inner-city landlords and (2) make the insurance coverage comprehensive and affordable. Schecher with the early support and sponsorship of the Rent Stabilization Association of NY, created the first NYC Federal Risk Purchasing Group for the casualty insurance protection of the smaller inner-city landlord. After several years of working with the RSA and upon loosing the sponsorship of the RSA, Schecher changed the name of the purchasing group to the Apartment & Property Owners Purchasing Group (APOpg)
From 1989 until the present day, SIR SERVICES-NY has maintained the original single focus of providing comprehensive program insurance services to the landlords of NYC. SIR continues to administer the Apartment and Property Owners Purchasing Group (APOpg) and the National Association of Property Owners & Real Estate Professionals (NAPOrep).
